We can bitch, moan, and pout like our Premier about @POTUS cancelling KXL but let's take a step back here.
Obama cancelled the project in 2014 citing environmental impacts in consideration to the economic contribution it'd make to the US economy. #ableg #abpoli (1/17)
Trump signed an Executive Order on the second day of his presidency which was shot down in a lawsuit held up in Montana. In 2019 he issued a new Executive Order revoking the previous order and issuing a new one, (2/17)
circumventing Montana's concerns with the project (which we're not going to get into here).
Despite all the pushback, @jkenney decided to commit $1.5 billion in an agreement with TC Energy, formerly Trans-Canada Pipe Lines Limited which was (3/17)
incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1951. Yeah, it was a crown corporation, federally funded. Go down that rabbit hole if you want. Spoiler alert, it doesn't end well for the taxpayer. (4/17)
. @jkenney decided to do spend all this money in March 2020. Remember where we were in March? Trump was polling incredibly low, all polls lead to a Democratic win, and Joe Biden was just announced as the presidential candidate for the party. (5/17)
Regardless of whether Biden was to be chosen as the presidential candidate for the party, it was clear between Sanders or Biden that climate change and the Paris Agreement was front of mind for both candidates. (6/17)
Instead, @jkenney decided to put all our chips on black and gamble that this project, which would employ a few thousand people temporarily until the project was complete... and employ maybe 20 people permanently. (7/17)
The writing was etched on the wall. Not the living wall, he pulled that out weeks ago, it was etched in plain sight for anyone following this project. (8/17)
He gambled billions of our dollars away and cancelled crude by rail contracts costing us $1.4 billion in cancellation fees just banking on this pipe dream to come to fruition. (9/17)
I find it painfully humorous that he found contracts and unions so important today after cutting the legs off of unions and breaking contracts with 11,000 physicians in the last Legislative sitting. (10/17)
. @jkenney has cost our province $16 billion in the last year, caused a downgrade to our province's credit rating twice, mismanaged the pandemic, reported the largest provincial deficit this province has ever seen and (11/17)
misappropriated $1.6 billion in the province's books; just off the top of my head in 2020 alone... all from his comfy office up in Redford's Sky Palace. (12/17)
I haven't even dug into their failed promise to bring in recall legislation, ripping away teachers' pensions, insurance and utility hikes, or deciding to sell off our Rocky Mountains and campgrounds for coal mines. (13/17)
Speaking of, that Sky Palace seems like quite the nothingburger now doesn't it? (14/17)
My generation will pay for this for the rest of our lives. What that looks like (a provincial sales tax, more hikes to personal income tax, etc) I don't know, but we'll be paying for it. It's time for Jason Kenney to go. (15/17)
Write your MLA, CC the Premier, Opposition Leader, media, and applicable ministers. I've never received a reply from the Premier's Office but I've been asked by the Opposition asking if my letter could be tabled in the legislature. @RachelNotley @shoffmanAB @albertaNDP (16/17)
Kenney can't ignore those letters when they're placed squarely in front of his face.
Alberta can't endure another two years of this gaslit horse and pony show.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. (17/17) @ryanjespersen #ableg #abpoli #pipelinepipedream
