4th C #Roman usurper Magnus Maximus has strong folklore links with Caernarfon, appearing as Macsen Wledig in the Mabinogion and Trioedd Ynys Prydein
His legend was later claimed by Plantagenet king, Edward I who built a Roman-inspired fortress of his own

Although the A4085 cuts Segontium, the larger part of the Roman fort was spared further development following the Wheelers dig of 1920-3 despite some houses having already been built

There's an excellent little museum at Segontium Roman fort #Gwynedd which sells some great souvenirs (love a gift shop!)
