Thread on public webinars and how people have taken to online with processes and protocols which is important in a data driven digital world.

Yesterday there was a event called "Masala Chai Meanderings" A literary event on zoom by some academicians and people from the
Field of literature.

I was invited by my friend and colleague. As I joined and a speaker later, while she was reading out her story, suddenly a naked picture popped on the screen as a participant started sharing inappropriate content.
There was total confusion in the meeting.

Another participant whose screen name was "Dr B R Gupta" Started shouting and then yelling at the administrator to make him the cohost as he knew who was sharing inappropriate content.

In all this confusion he was made the cohost
Nobody knew who he was. As soon as he became the cohost he claimed he removed the offending person but soon more strange content started getting shared.

Apparently he was the offender and now had taken over the session.

As the group scrambled to close the session this man
Wanted to say something inappropriate to the speaker but thankfully the session was terminated.

Once a new session was initiated I was told each participant was identified before the session restarted.

The moot point being the technology will enable all,
The user n the disruptor. The technology is not the end in itself but a means to help.

If the technology becomes an end it becomes an albatross around the neck. Think #aadhaar #aarogyasetu etc.
