If Trump has succeeded in one thing, it is to transform media outlets such as CNN and MSNBC into propaganda outlets little different than Fox. Indeed, they seem to have adopted the Fox business model: appeal to your base, invite only those with whom you agree, and attack.
Every evening (in Beirut) in recent weeks we could watch CNN's Brianna Keilar offering a running commentary on Trump's perfidy. He surely merited it, but in the process a credible news channel became a perfectly dull partisan mouthpiece, a sort of Pravda on the Potomac.
Now that Biden is in office, the mood has changed into buoyant obsequiousness, where each move the Biden people make is greeted by anchors with something approaching ecstasy, like the reaction of North Koreans when they catch a glimpse of Kim Jong-un.
I realize that CNN and CNN International are separate entities, but even the international programs were negatively affected. CNN made its name by focusing on news and remaining relatively neutral. It would be nice to go back to that. Please avoid four years of fawning.
