Aside from the fact that our populations, demographics, comorbidities, international connectivity etc are very different to NZ, for us to have done what they achieved we would’ve had to lockdown before Feb half term 2020. Before Lombardy, before we had a single death

Really?

Do we honestly, hand on heart think the UK population would’ve accepted that?

NZ,because of their location(and it was summer)achieved what they did because they saw Lombardy, they saw Europe being ravaged BEFORE they had significant transmission

NZ locked down after the UK

Also easy to forget that those nations that locked down successfully (because they had a time advantage) have been unable to create a vaccine in part because they haven’t had the caseload for trials and/or their vaccine has failed

Ultimately their freedom from lockdowns will only be possible because we were all hit harder&earlier during our winter months.

Mistakes have been made, there is no doubt BUT it’s easy to forget that Europe was actually in a bad way before we had any idea that we were
