I tracked 6,004 tech startups that raised $178 Billion in funding last year.

Here’s a thread looking at who raised what:
Let’s start by looking at the geo breakdown.

As expected, there was a lot more capital raised in the U.S versus elsewhere. Here’s how the $178B was distributed:

U.S & Canada - $90B (51.4%)
Asia Pacific - $48.8% (27.9%)
Europe - $28.8B (16.5%)
Middle East - $3.8B (2.2%)
Only a small fraction of the $178B was allocated to tech startups in Latin America and Africa:

Latin America - $2.9B (1.7%)
Africa - $685M (0.4%)
While there was more capital raised in Asia Pacific versus Europe, we saw 55% more deals made in Europe:

Asia Pacific
$48.2B spread over 1,011 funding rounds

Europe
$28.8B spread over 1,576 funding rounds
Early-stage or late-stage?

Here’s the breakdown from analyzing 6,000+ startups:

Angel - 1.6%
Seed - 34.8%
Series A - 23.7%
Series B - 13.7%
Series C - 7.02%
Series D-J - 5.4%
A ***J*** round? Yep!

@Zomato, a food delivery startup HQ'd in India, raised a $883M Series J round in September.
From our research, here are the markets that attracted the most billions:

Health Care - $46B
Finance - $16B
B2B Software - $14B
E-Com - $10B
AI - $8B
Education - $5B

Let's hope we see more $$$ going into education next year!
Out of 6,004 funding deals we tracked in 2020, 395 startups raised over $100,000,000 and 10 startups raised over $1,000,000,000
Some notable companies that raised over $1,000,000,000 in 2020:

@spacex - $1.9B
@northvolt - $2.2B
@gojektech - $1.3B
@RobinhoodApp - $1.2B
I'm excited to see more startups flourish in 2021.
