Why I know President Biden is a genuinely decent man...

During his second term as VP, I was at the Walter Reed ER in the evening with my youngest daughter for yet another lacrosse related injury 🙄

After an x-ray & splint we headed to the mess hall for bite to eat...

Nibbling on dinner we looked across the mostly empty dining hall and recognized then VP Biden and a staffer- huddled at a table, both eating hotdogs. They finished their simple meal, bussed their trays and thru away their trash, then headed to the exit...

Halfway thru the door, a voice called out- “I love you Joe Biden!!!”

Wearing a smock and hair net, one of the kitchen staff cleaning dishes had come out from the back and was waving to VP Biden.

With no hesitation, he pivoted and came back across the dining room...

He spoke with her for at least 5 minutes; eye contact never broke; a hand on her forearm. I’m not sure what’s was said- but in that moment she was completely his focus.

Then it was over, and he departed the cafeteria.

I’ve often wondered if he was their visiting troops or his son, battling brain cancer, but I do know - that what I witnessed was someone who intuitively understood the dignity and value of every person he met, someone who I would be proud to call my commander in chief.

Post script- If the true test of character is what a someone does when no one is watching, I have great hope for the years ahead.
