I'm going to thread about burping baby and also about nappy changes and poo https://twitter.com/sindivanzyl/status/1351353273874321412

Just need to say that you must not feel bad if changing poo nappies isn't your cup of tea

I hated it. I still do. Fortunately for me my family knew this so I had a lot of support and nappy changers on stand-by

As I said earlier, babies don't sleep through the night. Their sleep cycles are not like ours

Babies sleep, cry, feed, poo, sleep, cry, feed, poo - with no concept of day or night

It's important to understand and accept that before baby is born
#NewBaby

After baby has finished feeding, you have to burp baby. The mistake I made at the beginning is that after the first burp, I thought I was done. And I'd put baby down. The way baby would cry 😭

I then learnt to wait for a few more burps and for some passing of wind
#NewBaby

This is how I did it. After the feed, I'd put a cloth nappy on my shoulder, hold baby upright with head over that shoulder and walk up and down the passage.

If you have another technique please do share. Different babies respond to different things so let's share

Sometimes I would get all the burps and wind done in 30 minutes. Sometimes it took longer. But I learnt that if I put baby down before all the burps and wind were out, it was screaming all the way
#NewBaby

On some days, baby did not actually want to be put down at all. So guess what? I'd sit on the couch in the lounge with baby over my shoulder. Basically anything for peace and no crying

My babies didn't get any "baby remedies". They were my little experiment. I wanted to be able to preach what I had practised

They were exclusively breastfed then on No 1 formula for six months. Weaned onto No 2 formula and solids in the week of their sixth month of age

Babies can be so annoying when they're sleeping. They grunt, squirm, grimace, push, and sometimes curl up into a ball as if they're in pain. It is alarming and it keeps you awake

It is called #GruntingBabySyndrome
#NewBaby

Thank goodness for YouTube. There are videos of babies doing the most with #GruntingBabySyndrome

Please watch them. So that you understand what your baby is doing and that it's no cause for alarm or "baby remedies"

It really is annoying. And disrupts your sleep
