A really nice thing about Subaru's recent character development is how the results of it are not being used make him some kind of savior figure but rather how those experiences are being used to allow the others to save themselves https://twitter.com/IronMawO/status/1351955504537468930
Throughout this story various people have uplifted Subaru through their goodwill he never felt he deserved. But none of that cured his interpersonal problems own its, but was it those moments pointed him in right direction where he confront those issues & come to terms with them
Others had set the stage so that he could walk on it. Now he's one doing the uplifting and setting the stage them for walk on. He's not arrogant enough to think he could fix Emilia & Garf deep rooted problems but he can certainly nudged them towards the means to do so through
strong emotional support. Sometimes that support means you need to be strict with the ones you care about like what Otto had to do with Subaru to breakdown his stubbornness. That's why every line of dialogue and action Subaru had thrown at Garf and Emilia in their most vulnerable
moments felt like something his current self would say to the Subaru of yesterday, month ago or even in his childhood. This is talk he himself is now walking, its not empty platitudes or rhetoric. Its the embodiment of choices of and support that brought him here
That's why none of it come across as him preaching to me, because you cannot divorce those statement from his life up to now. In turn its why he could see through Emilia and Garf with his new found insight and point them on the path to recovery
Garf's fight with Subaru didn't fix his abandonment issues, just broke the walls so that he could deal with them. Subaru's heart-to-heart with Emilia didn't close her emotional wounds, but it gave her confidence to stand up again & not run from them, to move on for her own sake
Its rarely such character development where the protagonist giving others as much as other people have given him. To me its reason why Subaru much more of an "enabler" than a "problem solver". Because he does not solve conflicts himself, he does with everyone
That has been true of Re:Zero since the first arc and has continued to manifest its uniquely since then. Its why I roll my eyes when I see some tweet still try to call Re:Zero a "power fantasy" especially in this late in the game
Its certainly a word that no longer has any meaning if can still be applied to the series at this point (regardless of whether you like power fantasies or not) because at this point its no different that trying to fit square pegs in to round holes
