But also as I do I'm going to use this as a jumping off point because like... it's important to actually take racist hate groups seriously but it's also important to remember how conditionally they take THEMSELVES seriously.

See, white supremacists are big on fantasies. https://twitter.com/FoldableHuman/status/1352054746572484612
That's just inherent, right? White supremacy is, itself, a fantasy. It's a bit like how it's common for little girls to have this phase where they imagine themselves to secretly be princesses living with commoners. Just, you know, way more conscious of how many people are roped
into the backbreaking labor needed to live like princesses, and weirdly focused on that end of it.

Anyway, at any point if you go to any of their internal communications hubs, there are always going to be tons of pure propaganda threads, describing some very elaborate and absurd
fantasy they will achieve if they just keep at it. The whole Q thing is the best known one lately, rounding up all their political enemies to be executed for eating babies or whatever, but they have a LOT of these, and always have. If you're familiar with http://wehuntedthemammoth.com
you're probably at least passingly familiar with some of the weird ones that float around "incel" circles (which I ASSURE you are a fully integrated cog of the same hate machine). Where they're going to take power and force the government to distribute women to everyone as slaves
possibly after having their brains removed and possibly after replacing those brains with those of dogs for their loyalty and boundless affection. And then of course there's my personal favorite, where they got this idea in their heads where real life works like Civilization and
all they had to do was buy or steal land on the coastline of Namibia which was just sitting there totally unoccupied, dig canals from the ocean to irrigate the lifeless desert, and all live in some sort of whites-only utopia they built for themselves.

The thing with all of these
though is they are, in fact, aware that these are ridiculous fantasies. None of them actually really believe there's any realistic chance of them pulling any of this ridiculous crap off, and they certainly know on an individual level they have no real contributions to make. But,
again, it's propaganda. They all just sort of agree to roleplay that no really, this is all going to come to past if we just try hard enough, and playing along with that keeps their spirits up as they continue to fail miserably at all the things they actually try to accomplish,
while also pretending there really is some noble goal that, in some weird roundabout way, they are absolutely advancing by terrorizing and sometimes actually murdering random strangers. Just sacrifices to be made to the goal of everyone living in fancy marble castles on the coast
of Africa watching all those Democrats get executed while they have sex with their dog-brained government-issued girlfriends.

But, again, they don't ACTUALLY believe any of that. It's a big game, they're roleplaying, and they just never break character. Yes they really are sad
that reality is coming along to really thoroughly stomp on the Q sandcastle in particular, but not because they're "true believers," just because they were having a whole lot of fun playing that particular game, and using it to distract themselves from the moral ramifications of
what they were actually doing. Which, again, as Dan points out in that thread, was PLOTTING TO MURDER INNOCENT PEOPLE AND IN MANY CASES ACTUALLY ACTING ON IT.

Like, if it helps you contextualize things to view all terrorism through a dated Islamophobic lens, what we basically
have here is a bunch of puff pieces about how we should all be really sympathic to al Qaeda members as they are coming to grips with the fact they aren't actually going to be rewarded with those 40 virgins. But I do ask that you step back from that lens because they also did not
ever actually believe that. Again, this sort of thing is just feel-good fantasy propaganda to keep evil people on task rather than consulting with their consciences about what it is they are actually participating in.
