Trying to react in real time here but I can’t stop crying. #Thankful https://twitter.com/tanvim/status/1352056328877961219
Some add’l thoughts: This is an important 1st step we needed & next we need a swift, safe and fair paroling in of all the people who have been victimized by MPP over the last two years. This should be done primarily through a visa process at the consulates to limit CBP’s role.
Those whose cases were denied pursuant to MPP should be allowed to enter the US through the same process and they should be given access to the affirmative asylum system. MPP was a sham process, and these families deserve a fair shot at seeking protection. #DueProcess4all
In the days to come while we not-so-patiently wait for plans on how those currently trapped in Mexico will be paroled in, it is imperative that the administration continue to process people in from Mexico whose lives are in danger through the NRI or humanitarian parole process.
For 2 years people have been put in this program to punish them for seeking asylum. They have endured kidnappings, unspeakable violence and indifference and abuse from CBP, EOIR & ICE. They deserve a #WelcomeWithDignity and we will continue to push to make this happen. #AdiosMPP
