Meet some of the #HoodedPlovers that our team has recently banded along VIC’s with funding support from @DELWP_Vic’s Icon Species Fund.

Here we have PW White from the Otway coast.

Our specialist team of banders tag each #bird with a metal band with a unique number supplied by @envirogov’s ABBBS & an engraved white flag with 2 unique letters so observers can identify individual birds from the distance!

Each #HoodedPlover is also measured, weighed and a drop of blood is taken from the tarsal vein (in the bird’s “leg”) for #genetic sampling.

We have caught #HoodedPlovers now as far west as Discovery Bay and as far east as Corner Inlet. We have one more expedition to go and we’ll have a comprehensive set from across the VIC coast!
