As promised, here is a look at free-agent players who could fill a spot on any AHL roster.

These are proven, high-end players, many of them with championships and/or NHL games to their name.

They are free-agents right now only because of an extremely complicated market.

Space limitations mean that I had to keep the player descriptions fairly basic, but each one contains key points from my observations through the years.
So, this is a look at players who could help the team you cheer for; we'll go position-by-position.
Starting in net, if your team does not have a proven AHL-level goaltender, you are going to have a very difficult time finding one at this point.

After a very slow stretch of time, NHL clubs eventually all but cleaned out the market at that position.
Now let's look at the blue line. There are plenty of teams with major top-four gaps right now.
The biggest action is among the forwards, where there are still elite scorers who have 25- or 30-goal track records. This list contains captains, Calder Cup champions, and all types of roles.

Many of these players also have considerable history mentoring top young prospects.
As I joked with one player, if you could still put together one of those old-school unaffiliated clubs and populate the roster with some of these free-agents, you would very likely run the table in this league.
But on a more immediate note, many of these players would make excellent mentors, linemates, etc for your high-end prospects.

First- and second-round prospects need to play with high-end skill, and these players can provide that to help move those prospects on to the NHL.
