(1/10) How to start angel investing for beginners 🧵
(2/10) - Angels are often the first to invest in start-ups, at a stage where investment and support are critical but survival is challenging. Angel investments are long term and illiquid. Only invest what you are willing and able to lose.
(3/10) - @Crowdcube and @Seedrs are great platforms (which will soon become one) to start your angel investing journey. They have made angel investing extremely accessible; investors can invest a minimum of ÂŁ10.
(4/10) - I recommend picking a start-up that is in an industry you are interested in or have experience in. This should in theory give you an understanding of the market factors that could impact a start-up.
(5/10) - Read the pitch decks, the discussions and comments from prospective investors, and research reports. You will learn what areas other investors are focussing on and you can assess the quality of the response from the founders.
(6/10) - I dive into the discussion section and ask my own questions based on my reading and research. I tend to ask questions around the go-to-market strategy, key hires, cost of customer acquisition and product development
(7/10) - I like to write a 2/3 page summary of what I think about the investment opportunity. It’s a great way to express your thoughts and rationale as to why it was a good investment and what the key challenges/risks are.

(8/10) - Do 5 or so angel investments to get a feel for whether it's an asset class and investment type that suits you. The more you do the better you will become.
(9/10) - There are a series of angel investing masterclasses platforms where you can receive a formal education on how some of the best angels invest and look at deals:

The Effective Angel Investor by @UKBAngels
Angel Investment School by @AndysHVC
Angel University by @Jason
(10/10) - Consider joining an angel syndicate or angel network so that you can invest alongside other angel investors and learn from their experience. Just to note a couple:

Community Growth Ventures @CGVhq
Alma Angels @deepalinangia
HERMesa @HERmesa_angels
Odin @JoinOdin
