A thread on the Ravens offense ...
1) It’s abundantly clear the Ravens will go to work on improving their offense with the goal of seeking more balance between the run and pass game. John Harbaugh said he “owes” that much to his offensive players.

2) They’ll try to improve the offense in lots of ways that fans will like. Harbaugh said building the o-line is a “major priority,” getting a physical WR for Lamar Jackson would be “awesome” and the scheme needs to improve.
But that doesn’t mean ...
But that doesn’t mean ...
3) … that they’ll change their foundational run-first style. Harbs said Baltimore built arguably the best run offense in the history of football. He’s not wrong. So, as they improve upon passing, they won’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
One important distinction ...
One important distinction ...
4) … about measuring improvement: Harbs wants more pass & run balance in terms of EFFICIENCY (see DVOA ratings), not necessarily yards. They have the least pass yards bc they throw the least, and they throw the least bc they are historically good at running.
So the goal is ...
So the goal is ...
5) …to be much more efficient *when* passing like they are *when* running. Don’t expect Baltimore to suddenly be a West Coast drop-back pass team that throws 50 times a game. They’ll stay true to their identity as a run-1st offense. That said, Ravens want to make defenses pay…
6) ... when they sell out to stop the run. They didn’t do that in their playoff losses. The next step is to make those defenses pay, w/o changing their identity, but with better passing efficiency. Improved scheme, o-line protection and new targets will all help do that.
7) Harbs: “[Critics] will just have to live with [our style] bc Lamar Jackson and our offense have won a lot of football games. We're not apologizing for that for 1 second. We're going to improve it, no question about it. We're going to make it more precise, more efficient."
