After my 100th bad experience with giving refs, I'm officially done. I dont ask for them so I shouldn't be required to spend hours triangulating info so that more privileged SW can profit of the risks I take and send me rude emails saying I took too long, or not even say thanks
I've been giving refs for over 10 years and had SO many bad experiences of guilt for giving good refs for guys who went on to no show or be abusive, or being retaliated against by the client when he finds out I gave him a lukewarm reference. I see no point!!
In my very brief experience of getting refs myself, I had the two of the scariest experiences in my career.
In my experience, requiring deposits has been 1000 times a better screening method than references. I have an info sheet I made for Cdn providers who would like some tips on asking for deposits. DM me anytime!
