In life there are death pangs & there are birth pains. Today, I believe all our suffering has been birth pains toward a Third Reconstruction.
The pain of succession led to a new birth of freedom. The pain of assassination was meant to be a death pang, but led to Reconstruction.
Greed led us into the death pangs of the Great Depression, but somehow it turned into birth pains of a New Deal.
George Wallace’s call for “segregation yesterday, today & forever” felt like death pangs of the freedom movement, but it turned to birth pains of the Civil Rights Act thru the March on Washington.
The deaths of four girls; President Kennedy; Schwerner, Chaney & Goodman; & Jimmie Lee Jackson were horrible death pangs, but by the mysterious move of God became birth pains of a Second Reconstruction. Now we must PUSH for a Third Reconstruction.
