“We cherish that title, and all of them, but the way we built that team came at a price, which included importantly a depleted farm system and some depleted draft picks.”

Problem wasn’t ‘18 but what happened after: re-signing Eovaldi plus Sale extension before FA to push CBT https://twitter.com/dan_shaughnessy/status/1351945672405241858
The Red Sox want to build out their organization in the model like the Dodgers, which is definitely a clear vision for the front office, but the reality is the team put themselves in this position when Dombrowski’s moves after the World Series forced them to cut salary for CBT
Red Sox needed to get creative after the World Series title given that they depleted their farm system to get the pieces to win in 2018. Instead, they let Dombrowski double down on that championship team, and it immediately backfired and put them in a corner for roster-building
Red Sox built a strong farm system and "sustainable" org built for longterm with Cherington, but Henry got impatient with hesitancy to make moves to push team over the top, which lead to Dombrowski's hiring, who immediately acquired Sale

With Bloom, goal is sustainability again
My question with current Red Sox strategy is how long this patience in building out a sustainable, championship-contender will last. Bloom and Co. will need to balance building for future vs. spending for now.

Boston fans are impatient, not sure how long they'll want to wait
