Inspired to hear Teresa Clarke CBE talk about her @hmpps leadership journey this evening. Covered everything from dealing with imposter syndrome, to parts of leadership which should always be difficult, and how to deal with discrimination. Lots on the value of mentors too.
Teresa has done great work with care experienced people in custody - spoke inspiringly about the power of language and experience, and dangers of generalisations. What I loved most was the need to focus not only the challenges but also the incredible assets of vulnerable groups.
Other take away was her advocacy for a career which is based on having impact (“leaving footprints”) rather than building a CV. And the absolute privilege of dedicating ones career to public service. Rory Stewart speaks very powerfully to this too, and it always really resonates.
