ich: "Das ist akkusative."
lehrerin: "ja richtig"
ich: "aber "seiner Firma" ist Dativ"
lehrerin: "ja."

Germans like to get very snooty with their grammar because they think they speak English well but every single German I've spoken with looks at me crosseyed when I tell them "what are you listening to?" is grammatically wrong.

English has infinite bullshit rules that we simply choose not to enforce because we have defunded the grammar police

This is actually more or less not sarcastic. Most of the bullshit rules in english: not splitting infinitives, not ending sentences with prepositions, come from snooty aristocrats attempting to make the language more like Latin, to separate themselves from the masses.

Grammatical correctness is a thing that only really matters in formal settings, where these things were judged. In common speech, English is incredibly flexible and we break rules for the simple beauty of it.
