/ As Biden takes over, the US Ambassador to Israel's Twitter account quickly changed to include Palestinian territories. From "Ambassador to Israel" to "Ambassador to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza." No immediate comment yet from US Embassy or State Dept to clarify the change. https://twitter.com/USAmbIsrael/status/1351935443684757504
/ This could be a symbolic change to reflect the Biden Administration's more inclusive approach toward Palestinians. Trump's ambassador dismissed the separate US envoy for the Palestinians and took over the West Bank/Gaza portfolio, but he never called himself Amb. to WB/Gaza.
/ Palestinian officials expect Biden to appoint a separate US consul general for the Palestinian territories, separate from the Amb. to Israel. This Twitter title change may not reflect Palestinian wishes. The Palestinians never accepted @USAmbIsrael's diplomatic credentials.
/ Deputy Chief of Mission Jonathan Shrier is serving temporarily as US Ambassador to Israel until Biden appoints a permanent ambassador.
/ US Embassy Jerusalem says it has no comment on the Twitter name change.
/ US Embassy spokesperson statement: "This is not a policy change or indication of future policy change."
/ Update: the Twitter account title has been changed back to "Ambassador to Israel." No longer "Ambassador to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza." Awaiting official comment from Embassy to clarify.
/ From US Embassy: "It was an inadvertent edit, and not reflective of a policy change."
