(Tuchel Thread) This quote is so interesting, given how everyone acts about Tuchel: "Am I still a manager or am I a politician in sport, a minister for sports? At its heart, I love the game and I can get this satisfaction in many ways as a manager … I only love football. 1/
And in a club like this, it is not always just football." This sounds like a guy who just wants to make his team better. I wonder how many also know that Tuchel's contract was up at the end of the season, and hadn't been renewed yet. So PSG pulling the trigger early isn't 2/
THAT surprising, given the dynamics of PSG for both Ligue 1 and the CL. And what seems to be most criticized is his trouble with wanting more control, especially over things like transfers and things of that nature. But isn't this EXACTLY what we've given to Frank Lampard 3/
as a part of our new "trust the process" campaign? I don't recall our new 'mentality' being one of "hey Frank, just deal with what the board does, okay?" but rather "Frank, who do you want, and here's some more talent, and thanks for developing the youth", which FYI is also 4/
something that Tuchel is known for. Dembele and Pulisic are examples, there, along with others. Also interesting is that when he got to Dortmund he had to clean up the mess that Klopp left behind, which he did in fact do. Dortmund are a selling club, we all know this 5/
Which was a big part of the beginning of the frustrations between manager and club, and we also know that for the most part, Chelsea are NOT a selling club. We handsomely reward our best players and keep them as long as they want to stay. I'll be honest, the only part that 6/
concerns me at all is that Tuchel tends to speak publicly when he's upset, versus talking privately to the club. But at the same time, so many folks have loved the way previous managers have 'kept it real' and 'were honest with the press', so, it seems much of this is just 7/
cherry picking selective issues and making contradictory comparisons simply to shoot him down as an option, and it often seems to be happening with those that then follow it up with things such as "just let Frank ride out the season" which at this point is unacceptable. 8/
Tuchel positives:
1) he's only 47. Not too old, and not too young.
2) He did win league titles at PSG, although that's like grabbing candy out of the bin. But 2nd to Bayern and Pep isn't bad, either. Far cry from where we are now.
3) great developer of young players

Go find this level of analysis on Frank Lampard's body of work. It's really not there, because a) it's incredibly limited and brief, and b) it's literally not nearly as good. There's so much chatter about personality (without research) and so little talk of tactics. He's great!
