/ "Imagine if your personal trainer came over and you asked him how long the training session would be and he said "oh, it’s open ended."" - @JerrySeinfeld - thread on productivity featuring @JerrySeinfeld & @fortelabs 👇
/ Our brains can't handle open ended tasks. We need to set deadlines. @JerrySeinfeld 's insight is backed up by lots of techniques and mental models.
/ The Pomodoro Technique by @cirilloconsult speaks to this directly by breaking down every task into 25 min sprints. Committing to something for 5 hours is hard but 25 min... we can all handle that.
/ I use the Befocused app by @xwavesoft for my timer. I've tried a few, this is my favorite.
/ Speaking of sprints - The Mesa Method touted by @fortelabs uses this methodology. It's a 5 day intensive sprint meant to work through difficult problems within an organization. Pretty sure Silicon Valley stole this and named it Hackathon.
/ I really liked this quote by @fortelabs to articulate it's value - "What we need is not a new and better solution, but a method for creating solutions quickly, in response to changing conditions."
/ Check out Tiagos book to dive deeper - https://twitter.com/fortelabs/status/1105478721983508481?s=20
/ And finally, we have the First Principles model which break's down complex endeavors, systems and projects into their fundamental truths - helping us cut through the sh*t and focus on what is most important.
/ Great thread on first principles by @ShaneAParrish https://twitter.com/ShaneAParrish/status/1322546564494249984?s=20
/ In summary, to produce more, work in sprints and focus on first principles.
