Hello yes I am raining on parades today but exclusively the ones that uplift or center or enforce whiteness and its narratives.

Everyone else, please carry on. I love you and I know your celebration is never a rite of forgetting or erasure.

A lot of my BIPOC mutuals are being SO kind and gentle and not raining on any of the whiteness.

That’s an act of generosity, it’s not owed.

Historically, white celebration of a human rights victory is the opening prayer to a ceremony of denial and gaslighting and I’m just not here for it, friends.

Is this the better alternative? Sure, of the two imposed by whiteness.

But we have further to go than we’ve come.

Biden said he wants the GOP to continue, despite none of the party speaking up against open violent white supremacist fascism, because he wants an opposition party.

Mr President, we on the left would be a better opposition party in every respect. And yet.

As @yrbroshane said earlier,

“The Dem years are just the part of the abuse cycle where the abuser pretends to give you everything you want so you don’t leave.”

And as @egemini618 said “our new adversary is sworn in! YES”

So here we are. I will continue to rain on whiteness feelings parades because those are just the socially acceptable side of what you are celebrating having left the building.

And as a reminder, I do not do this because of who I hate.

I do it because of who I love.

PS the opposition party you choose dictates the direction you will move in compromise.

I believe that choice tells us a lot about the depth of conviction behind some people’s stated values.

Choose the BIPOC left as your respected opposition and move towards justice.
