The Pupillage Gateway is open and my DMs are full of people asking me about @outertemple from applications to my experience of pupillage and whether I would recommend applying.
The answer is YES and here are 10 reasons why... #thepupilperspective #Pupillage

1. My experience of the pupillage recruitment process was genuinely enjoyable and it was all very transparent.
Also, both rounds of the pupillage interviews take place in one weekend. First round Saturday, second round Sunday - that’s it! No long, agonising wait…

2. Every effort was made to encourage us to feel comfortable and perform at our best! I walked into those interviews feeling like the panel were genuinely happy to see me + interested to hear what I had to say. This isn’t common + takes some thought + consideration on their part.
3. @outertemple are committed to outreach work. Former head of pupillage @JamesCounsell5 was involved in this helpful video on pupillage interviews with @UniversityofLaw and @escimo .
I watched it on repeat and you should too – thank me later!

4. There are lots of feedback sessions which provide many opportunities to learn, understand my strengths and improve on my skills. There is no second-guessing or ruminating about how one is doing - they are straight up real.
5. The pupillage award is generous - £70,000. Money may not be your main motivator, but it helps to be paid well for a year of hard work. The award is matched by the considerable time + effort that @outertemple put into training us pupils through seminars + advocacy exercises.
6. My pupil supervisors @outertemple have been extremely supportive + invested in seeing me grow. Think comprehensive feedback sessions, encouraging pep talks + candid anecdotes about the realities of being self-employed. Shout out to @legalwillyoung Robert Dickason + Naomi Ling
7. The quality of work I have been exposed to is varied and interesting. My first seat was in personal injury + medical negligence and I’m now doing employment + pensions. It’s only been 5 months but I’m racking up interesting dinner party stories for when all of this is over!
8. Pupillage is challenging, particularly during a global pandemic. It helps to be among good people and I’m grateful for the support of Louanne, Alex Haines, @jsj159 @HuntCarin @jjCainer Gus, Beth, Victoria, Courtney and others - always ready and willing to listen + answer Qs!
9. Attrition at the self-employed Bar is a serious issue. @priestly_R has a consistent, proven record of supporting women practitioners and this is clearly high on the agenda @outertemple. Congratulations to the latest member of the silk gang – Rachel Vickers QC x
10. The staff and clerking team are super friendly and helpful. Special thanks to those who have helped me settle in here: Sura, Paul, Lynne, Jacklyne, Jack, Rachael, Rhonda + @Chloe_Corcoron @Victoriabunn16
