If you've read my tweets, you know that I advocate @kenpomeroy's rankings & tempo free stats. They do a great job of informing what we see on the floor & though they didn't start until 2002, they give us 20 seasons of data to compare. Here is a look at KSU hoops in that span. 1/7
K-State has dipped in the overall kenpom ranking to match the worst season in that span, 1999-00. The adjusted defensive efficiency has dropped to the worst K-State has seen in the same span and the offense isn't much better. 2/7
K-State's recent success has featured excellent pressure defense that turned opponents over at a high rate, typically top 50. That number has dropped considerably this year & the eFG% defense is at a 20 year low. Opponents don't feel pressure and get far too many easy shots. 3/7
The shooting stats reflect major issues; opponents make 2s more than any other time, but they also shoot and make more 3s than almost any other K-State team in the last 20 seasons. 4/7
Offensively K-State isn't much better in the 4 factors. The Cats are solid on the offensive boards, but struggle to shoot it, turn it over a lot, and never get to the FT line. That's a bad combo for offensive efficiency. 5/7
One solid aspect of this year's team has been making 2s, but the rate of shooting 3s is at an all time high despite this team being well below average at making them. That's another bad combination. 6/7
