I remember very viscerally going to Democratic volunteer HQ for a celebration after our work on Nov 8, 2016. We were joyous! But one by one, state by state, our joy turned to denial then disgust then fear, rising from the anxiety in our stomachs like bile. 1/
We wept all night and thought about where we could go to keep our family safe because we knew Trump meant the rise of fascism in America and we know what fascism means for marginalized people. We’ve been living in anxiety for 4 years, two months, 11 days. 2/
Many of our worst fears were realized: discrimination and hate became national policy, children were separated from their parents and locked in cages, Trump ignored and failed to contain a lethal pandemic, and he prompted a militia of terrorists to invade our capitol. 3/
But even as he slithers to his cave in Florida and a day of hope dawns, we know that this is not over. He will continue to encourage his terrorists. He will try to run or have his hellspawn run again. Trumpian fascism will outlive Trump. But we will fight and fight we must. 4/
My plea is for all of us who resisted Trump, who volunteered, who donated, who gave their time to fight fascism: stay engaged. It will be an ongoing fight. We must not become complacent. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will need us. Fin/
