The neoliberal bipartisan establishment wants to focus on reuniting itself in the aftermath of Trump. But the reality is you can’t unite a nation that’s half for white supremacy & half for multiracial democracy anymore than you could unite one that was half slave & half free.
Trump boarded a plane & left for Florida. But still present in DC, many at the inauguration today, are the very people who’ve devoted endless energy to disenfranchising Black voters & just led an attack on the Capitol with that same objective 2 weeks ago.
Trump is gone. The people who enabled it are not. The Trump era is over. The fight against white supremacy & fascism is not.
The question of whether we can unite is a question of what we are uniting around—multiracial democracy, human & civil rights for all or preserving the white power establishment?
