🧵 WHATSAPP HACKS:

Two friends have had their WhatsApp accounts hacked in the past few minutes, & hearing of many more cases.

If you receive a message from a friend/family member asking for a code sent to your number, NEVER SHARE IT!
This is how WhatsApp hackers are functioning: they will hack you, & then message your contacts asking for codes.

Most people send the code thinking they’re helping their friend/family, & end up getting hacked as well.
Remember: WhatsApp only sends codes for verifying your own number, not anybody else’s. If you share the code sent to your number through an SMS, your account will get hacked.
To make sure you can’t get hacked, turn on Two-step verification in your WhatsApp settings.

This way, without the 6-digit PIN, a hacker won’t be able to access your WhatsApp account even if they got the SMS code.

An email address adds another layer of security.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR WHATSAPP IS HACKED:

Try logging into your WhatsApp again through your phone number. You will receive a code through SMS which you will enter. This may take a few hours.

Hackers can’t access your chat history as that’s stored on your phone.
Hackers can impersonate you though.

If you’ve been hacked, inform people through your social media accounts so they don’t fall for sending codes also.

Delete people who’ve been hacked from WhatsApp groups they’re in with you until they regain access.
