(1/6) Silent Hill 3's story is one of its most underrated aspects of the game, if you asked me. I know it's often one of the more critiqued aspects of the game, and on the surface I get it -- SH3 is a story that's first half is about a girl going home, and the second half is a https://twitter.com/michaelthevamp/status/1351550088259264512
(2/6) deceptively simple revenge story. And tonally it's very different than SH2's story, which does have a certain atmosphere & feel that elevates the narrative.

I think there's a lot about the story that gets overlooked however, I think SH3 more than 1 or 2 has layers to what
(3/6) it's telling. The first layer is the relatable layer, Heather has easy to understand goals & is a likable character, she is pulled into a mess of thing she doesn't understand, nor cares to understand, she's got spunk & direct with her approach.

The side characters I argue
(4/7) are the strongest in the series, but not obviously so. All of them are like "loser" versions of SH1's cast, IE Douglas is like Cybil, but he's got a more crooked sense of justice, he's more broken, but also has a bigger heart from his pain. Vincent is like Kaufmann, has a
(5/7) plan of his own despite working with the Order, will go rogue if it meets his need, except he's sleazier, more awkward, cowardly, and understands less than he thinks it does. Claudia to Dahlia, Leonard to Lisa, each one is like a more crooked & rougher descendent of the SH1
(6/8) cast, but it makes them immensely interesting, they have more interaction than other SH side characters & more complex relationships.

There's also a more subtle way that the Otherworld takes shape of in SH3 I think most miss. SH1 is Cheryl's fears manifested, SH2 is the
(7/8) characters guilt, but SH3 I think has the best Otherworld in the series, & part of it is how thematically rich it is. The story never explictly explains what Heather is dealing with internally, the Otherworld is a twisted mess of Cheryl's little girl fears twisted through
(8/8) the eyes of an adult, with new fears of being a young woman, mixed with the scars of three life times, and reflecting like a dark religious imagery sensing its God squirming inside of her, which I think is told wonderfully subtlety.

I could say so much more, but yeah.
