Today is a day of hope, not because things will be magically better after oaths are taken, but because something other than malignant narcissism, barely veiled racism, and the evoking of the nation's worst fears will drive the national agenda and our shared life together. /2
Today, the nation starts afresh, with all its baggage and our collective sin weighing us down still, all the grief over those we have lost still raw and aching. /3
That is, we start afresh even if we don't start anew. And, today, that's enough. Today, that's a gift for which I'm deeply grateful. /end
