TOP CV TIPS (THREAD)
A couple months ago, I wrote a blog post on how to effectively write a CV. I thought it would be useful to summarise those tips in a thread. These are tips that have helped me pass screening for many leading firms so hopefully it’s useful to others too.

Content (1)
For every sentence structure it: VERB - ACTION - IMPACT
VERB: Start every sentence with an action verb: https://hls.harvard.edu/dept/opia/job-search-toolkit/action-verbs/
ACTION: Talk about what YOU did, not what your team did.
IMPACT: Add the impact that resulted from the action - sales improved 80%.

Always SHOW not TELL. Don’t ever say you learnt/improved/displayed a certain skill in your experiences. Show these skills through your actions.
Make sure to quantify whenever you can as numbers stand out - percentage improvements, revenue, etc.

Content (3)
If the experience is not related to what you are applying to - avoid using too many technical terms. You want the reader to understand everything.
Instead, try to add lingo to your sentences that is relevant to the field you are applying to.

Content (4) - Example
Bad sentence: I improved my marketing skills when I launched a website on APS.
Good sentence: Created and launched a website that has 350 monthly visitors on average and it increased membership sales by 85%.

Content (5)
Make sure to be brutal when choosing what to keep on your CV - add the experiences/examples that stand out the most.
Understand what skills are needed for your field - then try to show these in your experiences.

Content (6)
Don't worry if your experiences are not directly related to what you are applying to - do the previous tweet and you are good to go.
Don’t neglect extracurricular activities - they are very important.

Content (7)
If you feel like you are lacking experiences on your CV - then it is a good indicator to try get some more.
Put your grades down for all education. If you haven't finished a course for example, then put down your predicted grade. Make all grades bold.

Format (1)
No need for personal statements or reference information.
Use Times New Roman or Arial. Minimum font size 10, recommended size 11 (1 size greater for titles).
Black and white CV and must be 1 page.

Format (2)
If running out of space, play around with the margins to fit more on the page.
Be consistent throughout with whatever choices you make, don’t change midway through your CV.

Format (3)
No errors at all in your grammar, spelling, anything.
Write in bullet points - no more than 3/4 bullet points for an experience. Aim for one line for each sentence.
