THREAD: Can we take a moment to talk about how, in this age of THE INTERNET, OSSTF still elects its president via delegates sent to an in-person (temporarily online) conference? 1/
How those delegates will naturally have more privilege and positional power, means to access weekend childcare, no other obligations for that weekend, greater knowledge of how to game the system, etc. 2/
This creates a cycle of the same old white men holding & being in power over & over again. We know that first past the post deprives people of power in federal & provincial elections. Why are we happy to have power stripped away in a UNION because of delegated elections? 3/
If we want a teachers union that stands up to Ford and, more importantly, stands FOR the rights of students, we need to bring ALL members with their diverse lived experiences and knowledge to the table. This can't be done with a delegated system. 4/4 #onted #osstf
