Not just the Russiagate figures but Kwame Kilpatrick, Duke Cunningham, even Salomon E. Melgen, a Florida doctor and Democratic donor at the center of one of the first big Super PAC pay to play cases.

He entered office posing as an anti-establishment populist and he ends it handing get-out-of-jail cards to the most flagrantly corrupt members of the American political elite in both parties—people who lied and cheated and stole and got caught.

There’s something ultimately Trumpy in the way he and his campaign and allies invented reams of fiction about widespread Democratic voting fraud in places like Detroit and then pardoned an actual corrupt Democratic politician from Detroit.
