Though already an Omega-level mutant, expert thief, and melee fighter, Claremont also built a delicate, but hard-to-trace, thread by which we can perceive Storm as a magical being as well. #xmen @MutantElement 1/6
In UXM #160 the X-Men travel to Limbo and meet an alternate timeline version of Storm who references “the other half of my heritage: sorcery.” She notes that Belasco allowed her study of the black arts, assuming they’d corrupt her. They didn’t. 2/6
Study and heritage, of course, are not the same thing and indeed we learn in New Mutants #32 that Storm is a descendant of Ashake, an ancient sorceress character who appears in Marada the She Wolf (from Marvel’s Epic line). Ashake has silver hair and blue eyes. 3/6
We might also note that Storm is particularly attractive to male sorcerer figures such as Loki, Dr. Doom, and Dracula, to name just a few. This is not the most compelling evidence, as Storm is attractive to everyone, but still. 4/6
Additionally, Storm exhibits religious ties to Wicca and Pagan religions through her worship of the “Bright Lady,” a name attributed to the earth mother Gaea within Marvel canon. Storm is also quite frequently described as “witch.” 5/6
When combined, these elements build together a pattern of Storm as a magical being. We don’t really get to see that take shape outside of the alternate timeline version, but it’s an interesting facet of her character that comes up now and again. 6/6
