Obviously, this is a bit tongue in cheek. But I'm a bit surprised by how much confidence folks are placing in one election & one inauguration.
Also, it overlooks the fact that the division & chaos of last few years was not the work of one person. DJT simply capitalized on a certain ethos & that ethos is still intact in many ways.
I mean don't get me wrong. From beginning, I've thought Trump was wrong leader for US, but he attained & kept presidency b/c systems & peers allowed it. Whatever wrong he did, the political ecosystem did not hold him in check. At end of day, a majority of voters did.
It's far to easy to see the last few years as an aberration but they are more of a revelation. We must face where & who we are as a people. We must face where & who we are as the American church.
A lot of work lies in front of us, work that won't be completed in our lifetimes, work for generations yet to come. Thankfully, the way forward is the same as it's always been: humility, self-sacrifice, love of neighbor, justice, patience, & hope.
If we've learned anything these last few years, let it be this: Character counts. Integrity & courage matter. And virtue is as practical as any policy initiative could ever be.
