I know Kurumada is criticized for accepting every way of making more money with StS franchise, but I really appreaciate that he accepted and gave the idea to have a spinoff where the protagonists are girls and to put a woman and an excellent mangaka in charge of this manga+
Especially since Saintia Sho is still pretended to be a shonen and we all know that shonen's main audience are boys, and let's emphasize, Saint Seiya already has an audience. I'm not sure how things works in Japan, I remember my teacher once told me that is not that easy or+
well seen that women create shonen manga the same as men creating shojo manga. Kurumada never had a problem with giving women opportunity to work with him; from his early years we know his staff was also comformed by women, and he accepted Teshirogi-sensei to create LC. What+
makes Saintia Sho special is that the story is focused on girls saving the world. At first I remember there was a lot of discussion about this; and I'm pretty sure that Kurumada should have been aware that this idea maybe wouldn't be easily accepted by the audience and still, he+
decided to go ahead with it. Kuori-sensei has already proved us that she's really good at doing her work, trying to build a paralel storyline with StS classic series, keeping StS essence, and working and giving personality to her characters in an interesting way. I'm mentioning+
this bc I remember all the problem of this fan stating that Saintia Sho is not a good manga and he said that the proof of it was that it wasn't on the top list of the most sold mangas in Japan. I honestly don't think that the main problem of this wasn't Kuori's fault for doing+
a bad job because her job it's pretty good. I'm sure that one of the main issues of Saintia Sho's lack of popularity (If we want to call it this way) is that it focuses on how five girls fight in a world were men have advantage. This perspective of course is not really common in+
the world of shonen and it's expected that it won't recieve a good reception. There have been shonen mangas created by talented women as Full Metal Alchemist written by Hiromu Arakawa and let's not forget Teshirogi-sensei with The Lost Canvas, but these two mangas still focus+
on having male characters as protagonists. Female characters are always side characters or support characters; meanwhile Saintia Sho has female characters as main characters and male characters as the Gold Saints as support characters and I'm pretty sure that they surely have+
strong apparitions bc they're what always attracts the audience xD Still, the focus on Saintia Sho is that we see the travel of Shoko and her friends in their fight against Eris and Ares, of course is NOT and easy war to win. Chimaku Kuori revealed in an interview that the idea+
of a new Saint Seiya story only protagonized by women was from Kurumada himself and that he also wanted these women to not be opressed by the law of the mask that Female Saints had to endure. He gave the opportunity to enjoy a shonen protagonized by women, maybe for the female+
audience to feel included or to give StS's universe space for women. Yes, Saintia Sho might not be perfect, but it is important to state that its context itself it's more complicated that other Saint Seiya's spinoffs and even so, Kuori has done her best for these series to+
keep Saint Seiya's essence. There are still people that dislike this manga or there are ppl that started to read it for the love of Saint Seiya and found out that it was good. Let's just appreciate that it helps other ppl to accept this new perspective of a shonen manga.
Btw, sorry for the typos and mistakes xD
