Lodya Remon is one of the activists who survived a vicious attempt on her life as she was leaving her house in Basra to attend her friend's funeral, Tahseen Osama, who had been killed two days earlier. #Iraq #Basra #iraqiprotests
She told us:
"I fled Basra after the attempt, and I don't think I will be coming back anytime soon. It is too dangerous. When they [militias in Iraq] want you dead, they don't stop until you are. It might not even be long before they find me in hiding"

Days after the killing of Tahseen Osama and the attempt on Lodya's life, prominent women's rights activist Riham Yaacoub, was killed.
It has been more than 6 months since the @iraqigovt headed by Prime Minister @MaKadhimi pledged to hold accountable those responsible for the assassination of 10’s of protesters, yet not enough action has been taken so far. #IraqiProtests
The @iraqigovt must step up efforts to protect protesters and prevent further bloodshed. We continue to urge the government to put an end to this campaign of terror and deliver justice to the victims, their families and loved ones. #Iraqiprotests
