dream smp roleplay

while the “tommy’s character is a traumatized child” argument is very important to his experiences, i don’t think that argument should be used to shut down and negate the real and valid feelings of other characters who are, for the most part, also young adults
for instance: jack’s and niki’s characters are 18 and 19. that’s barely being an adult and not older than tommy. people do not get “how to have coping mechanisms and recover from trauma!” manuals the moment they become what’s legally an adult, especially in the dream smp verse
other characters also feel valid and fair hurt from the war they ALL experienced. some of that hurt comes from tommy’s character himself. even though age and life experience are very important for dynamics between tommy’s character and other characters, their trauma and pain
don’t magically whisk away just because they’re older than tommy, ya kno?

and even though tommy’s character shouldn’t HAVE to learn all his life lessons through violence, shouldn’t HAVE to have his childhood stripped away, and DESERVES a reliable and caring adult figure,
as a character, he can still be wrong. he can still learn. he can still grow- even when he’s young and hurt.

perhaps especially so, to prevent being locked in the mindset of “i am hurt, and thus, i can hurt others” that many people later in life find themselves in.
which is why i am personally not fond of the “he’s a traumatized child” argument to be used in Every Single Interaction the character has.

improvement is possible for everyone on the SMP, and tommy is included. he’s ALREADY doing it. it would be a disservice to imply otherwise.
