- Today historian Benjamin Stora one of the world's leading authority on Algerian history submitted his report on "the memories of the war of #Algeria and colonization " to Emmanuel Macron. https://www.rfi.fr/fr/afrique/20210120-france-alg%C3%A9rie-benjamin-stora-remet-son-rapport-%C3%A0-emmanuel-macron
-Macron gave this mission to Stora in order to find long-term solutions to reconcile the French and the Algerian people, 59 years after the bloody war of independence. For what it's worth, this initiative is more than welcome.
- I remind you that in 2017, Macron (who was running for president at that time) was one of the very rare politician to call colonization for what it is: a crime against humanity (he received a lot of backlash for his statement).
- The presidential election in France is in 2022 and the question of colonization is still a hot topic for a good chunk of our political elite who refuses to see the obvious consequences of colonization in today's French society (especially regarding discrimination and racism).
- I mean we still have politicians who seriously believes in the so-called "positive role of French colonization"(Don't even get me started on this one).
- I also wonder what the Algerian government is doing. The Algerian regime has been using colonization as an excuse to cover their crimes and their massive failure to build a a democratic regime and an economically viable country. But that time is over.
- Both countries need to work together for a better future. But for that, they need to have the interest of the people in mind.
- Despite the current political context here in France, I sincerely hope that this topic and this report will remain a top priority in Emmanuel Macron's agenda.
