City had a great start to the 17-18 season ,had a great winning streak but all of it changed for David Silva in December.
December 2017:David Silva's son Mateo is born extremely premature(25 weeks) in a hospital in Spain and there was no guarantee whether he was gonna live or not
David Silva missed 4 matches in December because he took a leave and immediately flew to Spain for his son Mateo and wife Jessica.Pep Guardiola allowed him to stay as long as he wanted with his family and said "some things are more important than football".
Here's a picture of Kevin de Bruyne dedicating his goal against Tottenham(a match which Silva missed because he was in Spain for his son)to David Silva by showing the number 21(Silva's shirt number) to the camera
David Silva missed many matches for the next few months as he frequently shuffled between England and Spain. But finally 5 months after his birth, David Silva's son Mateo was released from the hospital after fighting for his life each and every day while in the incubator.
The picture below shows the first time David Silva brought his son to the Etihad Stadium. It was a match against Huddersfield in the 18/19 season. The crowd ,the players and the match officials gave a warm round of applause before the match for David Silva's son
In that same match David Silva scored a goal and got an assist securing a Man of the Match award. The pic below shows the entire Man City squad posing for a photo with Silva and his son(centre) after that match as a gesture of support to him.
Silva later revealed in an interview that it was a special moment for him to score on Mateo's first day at the Etihad and he'll never forget the support he received from the club, the manager and his teammates during his difficult times with Mateo
One of the primary reasons Silva moved to Real Sociedad this season was because he could stay with his family and hence be close to his son.
