A thread that explains how the lists of greatest footballers ever should go like
TOP 3: The gods of ability
Messi Maradona Pele. Nobody comes close to these 3 in terms of individual ability. You can put them in any order you like, but nobody has played the game of football as well as an individual as these 3. The true geniuses of this sport
Places 4-6: The influencers
Cruyff Beckenbauer Ronaldo. These people revolutionized football and their positions. Cruyff the tactical approach and the number 10, Beckenbauer the defenders, Ronaldo the wingers. Cruyff is the most influential in history so he gets 4th for me.
7th: Alfredo Di stefano
The best of his decade, the one who did everything on the field. I couldnt put him higher, because of the era he played in. Yes, controversial, he could be in 4-6 easily, not for me though. Any lower would be tragedy.
8th: Ferenc Puskas
A huge legacy. Out of the remaining persons nobody has his legacy. His hungarian team was the first to represent total football and strong attacking football, even if it started later as a term.
Places 9th-20th: Players who mastered their positions. Normally these guys would rank in top 2-5 in their decades
Examples: Ronaldo(9)/Zidane/Platini/Eusebio/Meazza/Baresi/Maldini/Muller/Garrincha/Zico/Moore etc.
