Seeing as Dr. Death is back in the spotlight, let’s quickly revisit his legacy, focusing specifically on Project Coast [A smallanyana thread].

Project Coast was an Apartheid covert chemical and biological warfare programme, headed by Wouter Basson aka Dr. Death.

In 2014, he was found guilty of unethical conduct by the Health Professions Council of South Africa for the evil operations he conducted on behalf of the apartheid regime, using biological and chemical weapons.

The organization that he was in charge of was headquartered in Roodeplat, north of Pretoria, in a laboratory complex that was disguised as a military research institution named Roodeplat Research Laboratories.

In the 1980s Basson tried, but failed, to develop a vaccine for making Black women infertile so as to stop the population growth among Black people.

Perhaps a more insidious part of his evil plan was the attempt to kill people through an evasive substance that would not be detected even through a post-mortem. What resulted from this experiment was a production of teargas, and drugs such as ecstasy and mandrax.

In an attempt to quell the political uprisings that rendered the townships ungovernable in the 1980s, Project Coast flooded Black and Coloured townships with Mandrax.

About 70 million pills of Methaqualone (mandrax) were strategically distributed in townships and this fueled gangsterism, violent crimes and a culture of substance abuse.
