This is my 2nd rant about Bollywood but forgive me, this is triggering. Hear me out. Richa Chadha's saviour complex is clear as day here. She feels she's doing us Dalits a favour by playing the role of Mayawati. You're getting paid for it, you're not doing us any free charity 1/n https://twitter.com/SheThePeople/status/1351549070486118400
Richa says it's wrong for a white to play a black role, but it's okay for me to play a Dalit bc there's not much difference. Madam it's not about skin colour, it's about representation. Reason blacks wanted to tell their stories was because there were lack of Blacks in Hollywood
There is not a single Dalit actor, director, producer, etc in mainstream Bollywood. First ask yourself why Bollywood only consists of privileged upper-castes even in 2021. Instead of crying about nepotism, ask why even the non-nepotist actors are still not from backward castes
The cast is Shukla, Kaul, Kapoor, etc. A movie about Dalit politician but the cast is entirely UC. Plus you hand a broom to our leader and ask why there is outrage. If you had read history, you would understand how brooms would be tied to Dalits so we don't pollute the ground
Imagine making a movie about literally any other politician in India and making them hold a broom & torn clothes. Think about the consequences. Richa is sad about getting cancelled on Twitter by Dalits, had this been another politician, she would've had to leave India for safety
And speaking of accusing Dalits of sexism because we criticised you. The reason we didn't criticise the cast of Masaan was because it was directed by a Dalit. And if you're such a feminist, why are you working with Subhash Kapoor in this movie, a man accused of sexual assault?
Richa says we are reducing her to an UC, which is no different that what UCs do. Don't you understand that you are the oppresor here? Your privilege and wealth comes from our oppression. Imagine a white actor crying reverse racism because Black people criticised him for blackface
Bollywood is the epitome of casteism. We are not asking you to play our roles. We have our people like Nagraj Manjule and Pa Ranjith. Please just stop exploiting our struggles for your business. All we ask for is Dalit representation in Dalit roles. It's the bare minimum. n/n
