One thing that I never see addressed in all of these "why won't Feinstein/Pelosi resign?" or "Why didn't RBG resign earlier?" thinkpieces is how old women are talked to and talked about. We're used to rolling our eyes at our grandma or elderly aunt or that old lady at work.
When's the last time you spoke to your oldest female relative, and how did you speak to her? Do you consider her smart, knowledgeable, an expert in some field? Or do you consider her a nuisance and someone to tolerate until she goes away?
Some old people suck, it's true. But we're used to just... discounting old women. So when an old woman gets power, it's because she's ignored EVERY SINGLE PERSON who tried to get rid of her. And that's a hard habit to break—and not one you *want* to break.
So maybe people can start asking themselves why they think the calls for Pelosi or Feinstein or whoever else to leave *now* are so much different than the ones these women have heard all their lives; because from their POV there's no difference at all.
