I used to teach MBA Students and was precise in my communication with my students with respect to what is required of them

One of the key areas was Assignments. I had clear cut instructions as to what is to be done and what is not. 1/n
I never hesitated in giving a Fail Grade to a student on Assignments and only the best Assignments got A. I made it a point to write reams of comments on the Assignments as feedback. 2/n
Once a Top Academician from the University visited us in Kuwait, and told me not to Fail in Assignments

I showed her the rulebook and asked her to change it if she wants me to do what she asked. She didnt say anything else

All other faculty gave 'A' grade to all be default 3/n
But I ensured student got only what he or she deserved.

I gave clear instructions, and then asked Sem 1 Students to write one question of one Assignment as a sample, which I evaluated to give a feedback. This was discussed in open class, a session that lasted 4-5 hours 4/n
They were allowed to improve upon that one question and then write the rest of the Assignments

My Guidelines are reproduced below;

• A4 Plain sheet
• Professional font like Ariel, Times New Roman or Courier
• Heading Font Size 14, text font size 12
• 1.5 line spacing 5/n
• Both sides justified
• Spelling and Grammar checked
• Normal top, bottom and side margins ( Top and Bottom 1” , Left and Right 1.25”)
• Questions and Question numbers to be written in the assignment 6/n
• References (Harvard style referencing) to be furnished at the end of each answer. References of at least 2 standard text book expected. Too much of web based referencing will be frowned upon.
• Excerpts or quotes in inverted commas and in italics 7/n
• Assignment neatly divided into sections with subheadings
• Spelling and Grammar checked
• Page numbers to be put

Each Answer not < 1200 words and not > 1500 words. Word count to be put at the end of each answer. Write/ Type the Assignment in your OWN Words.
8/n
Critical analysis of the student on theory and application essential. All the above points other than those pertaining to formatting will apply for handwritten assignments. Handwritten assignments have to be neat, organized
and legible. 9/n
DO’S

• Do read Standard Text books given as Reference Books
• Read the theory well, comprehend it, note down points.
• Try to find organization examples from your workplace that supports
your argument and illustrates the point you are trying to make. 10/n
• Be prompt to acknowledge the source from which the material is taken from in the event of quotes and definitions
• Then write/type the assignment in YOUR OWN WORDS
• The Assignment should have an Introduction, Theoretical portion embellished with small examples and 11/n
then the detailed organizational example critically analyzed.
• Please give the pros and cons of your argument and clearly state the stand YOU have adopted.
• While giving organizational example, it is not enough to just state an incident. 12/n
What is important is your analysis of the incident using the appropriate theory.
• Recommendations for improvement or suggestions of alternate theory being more suitable should be explored in detail. 13/n
DON’TS
• Do not copy from any published material or internet or your book
• Do not attach print outs from internet as Attachment. Attachments do not count in the number of words.
• Do not copy cases verbatim from internet or any published material. 14/n
• Wherever egs are to given based on your experience, it has to be from your own organization. Do not furnish examples from the web or say from US/UK/ Russian Companies taken from text book
• DO NOT CUT, COPY AND PASTE
• Doing ANY of the above will mean FAILING YOU. 15/n
IMPORTANT
• Any data presented has to be up to date.
• The answers should contain the relevant theory in brief, the reason why
the particular theoretical aspect was chosen, the alternative theory
applicable, why it was not chosen and the relevant application. 16/n
Almost all the questions have two parts. Invariably the second part of the question contains application of the concept in a company where you have worked. Many students do not pay much attention to this. Either this
part is left out or written extremely briefly. 17/n
Please note that more
importance is given to this section of the answer. Improper treatment of this portion shall result in student getting low grades. 18/n
• For successfully qualifying a course, a student will have to obtain at least ‘D’ Grade in both continuous and term-end examination (individually).
However, the overall average (combined) should be at least ‘C’ grade for
the successful completion of a course. 19/n
A = Excellent
B = Very Good
C = Good
D = Satisfactory
E = Unsatisfactory
Following is the system of converting the overall letter grades to
percentage equivalents.
A = 80% and Above
B = 60% to 79.9%
C = 50% to 59.9%
D = 40% to 49.9%
E = Below 40% 20/n
• Students will NOT be allowed to resubmit the assignment should he/she were to get low grades.
• Students will not be allowed to add additional material if an answer is inadequate. 21/n
• Student also will not be eligible to write the term end examination if he or she fails to submit the assignment.
• Whatever grade given A,B,C,D or E stands
• The deadline for the assignment is the one given by the Faculty in the Class. This is NON NEGOTIABLE. 22/n
Requests for extension of deadline to submit the assignment will NOT BE ENTERTAINED under any
circumstances. 23/n
PS: Despite the above, which was shared with Students, compliance was poor. But they learned short cuts wont work with me and by Sem 2 started complying at least for my Assignments

Good Students loved me, but majority hated me.

That is life😃 n/n
