People, especially white people. Educate yourselves about anti-black imagery. Do not repost or share racist caricatures of black people. Particularly black women. It’s dehumanizing, despicable, and racist. https://twitter.com/jimcarrey/status/1351342226639474689
The number of likes on that tweet are quite alarming. @JimCarrey you need to delete this post and do better. Reposting anti-black depictions of black people is a racist practice intended to further dehumanize us. And It’s particularly more harmful to darker skinned black women.
Yesterday, we laughed at Issa’s reactions but some of these drawings are racist (even if it wasn’t the artist’s intention). There’s a history of racist imagery of black people and I don’t want us to forget that. https://twitter.com/honestari/status/1351208000657231875
Case in point. Here’s a great piece on a racist Serena Williams drawing. “Cartoonists need to be as thoughtful about the message of their cartoons just as much as they are about their depictions, current and historical. We do not draw in a bubble.” https://www.google.co.za/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/wp/2018/09/13/a-racist-serena-williams-cartoon-went-viral-heres-how-to-caricature-her-the-right-way/%3foutputType=amp
