I don’t know how many different ways it can be explained that the very real problems with Finn’s storyline in the ST have nothing to do with the last Skywalker having a main role in his own family’s saga before people will stop falsely equating the two
if you’re actually concerned about Finn’s storyline and not just with hating a fictional character, perhaps it would be more useful to address how Rey was always the Jedi from earliest concepts and yet they chose to make it look like Finn was 2 years later in marketing
JUST so they could do a “shocking surprise,” or how they shrunk him on the TFA poster for China or! or! perhaps one should examine how other non-Skywalker characters may have sucked up his screentime in the Skywalker saga, with limited screentime to go around for non-Skywalkers
“the last trilogy in the Skywalker Saga should have been ONLY about these 3 characters who are not Skywalkers” is not the compelling argument you apparently think it is
if you boil the trilogy down to essential characters and then build it up from there, it was foundational, essential, to have a new-gen Skywalker as a main character. he’s the connective tissue that links this trilogy to the other two and makes it a Skywalker Saga trilogy
obviously there’s plenty of room for other non-Skywalker main characters! this is an ensemble piece! the problem comes in that you have to plan a coherent, paid-off story for those characters so they have a reason to be so prominent in a saga about a family they’re not part of
Finn’s central conceit as a character was something we’d never seen before—a humanized stormtrooper! his tragedy was being stolen from his family. the mistake was in not paying that off by 1) inspiring his fellow stormtroopers back to the light and 2) reuniting with his family
imagine him winning the war by inspiring all his fellow brainwashed child soldiers to lay down their weapons en masse—not fighting what you hate, saving what you love. imagine an ending where all those poor brainwashed kids were reunited with the families they were stolen from
and in THAT, Finn would actually have been the moral/spiritual successor to ROTJ Luke, in that he would defeat great evil by the laying down of weapons and not the using of them
