On Jan 6, with an armed insurrection in the nation's capital, I was beside myself with disbelief and anxiety. I was useless. I cancelled all our meetings in the afternoon. The clients who had meetings scheduled said "thank you." They were feeling the same way (or worse).

Other financial planners said their *job* was to continue "business as usual." That their *job* was to be an unwavering emotional rock for their clients. I disagreed with this purely because being emotionally attuned and honest is the *core* of the best financial planning.

As @Rianka_D explains in her latest @wealth_mgmt article, the expectation of "business as usual" is particularly inappropriate for Black advisors. Her article is short and punchy, gives us another chance to see this industry through a lens that isn't white and male.
