I've decided the insane age bias in League comes from a misunderstanding of what "falling off" is. We've seen veteran players who looked really good in early seasons look bad in later seasons, and we attribute this to them getting worse, when actually it's just everyone else
got better. The vast majority didn't actually fall off, they just got outpaced. Had nothing to do with them aging, yet that's what we attribute that to, and now make all our decisions off of. Insec'ing used to be a crazy play, and now every gold player can do it.
I also see people argue that LoL careers burn out quickly/are short for whatever reason, which could be true, but is a strange argument because if that was true, that would heavily incentivize picking up older players. If humans peak in mid-late 20s, and LoL careers last 5 years,
you'd want to be picking up 23-24 year olds in an optimal situation. It's crazy how little thought went into this "young talent" narrative, and now it's really affecting talent development/acquisition.
The strongest argument for it is that younger players are easier to develop, but it really isn't worth what we're seeing now, where good players don't get opportunities because they're 21 and that's too old.
